Hadrian’s Walk – Day 4

Today we crossed at least seven foot bridges and one railway track. To me it felt like a hard day but it wasn’t that far to walk – 21 kilometres. Tomorrow will be farther.

Our first bridge was at the start.. maybe that’s why our B&B is called Bridge House? It was a stone bridge. I’ve managed to miss it in both photos!

The animals are still around us all the time..especially the sheep and giant cows.

They have these yellow flies here, always sitting on cow patties. We saw a cow patty in one field that someone had written “Trump” in with their pole point. We haven’t written anything in cow patties, but it’s not for lack of cow patty space!

The vistas are never ending on this walk. Sometimes it seems that the hills are never ending too. I understand tomorrow is a more level day.

Our trail blended with the Great Pennine Way Trail for 9 kilometres. We met some interesting people. One had been walking for 12 days. We stopped at a National Park tea room and washroom.

Wall, wall, wall.

This is perhaps the second bridge we went over.

It was very near Thirwall Castle. You can see it in the background.

That last shot was DH in the castle prison. 😃

In Gilsland we stopped for tea and I had carrot cake. Dolly’s still reigns supreme. This isn’t that far back in the pack.

This is another one of our bridges. Pretty impressive and built to last centuries.

The trail is marked by these while acorns.

And we found some real acorns on the trail!

We also found a toadstool house, complete with door. Can you see it? We are considering opening up our own tea stop for small walkers.

It’s been another great day. There are people in this B&B from Holland and we visited all through dinner. Tomorrow is our last day to walk. It’s a long one so we’ll need an early start.

Good night.

Keep smiling!
