This gentleman guards the stairs. Our room at the hostel is on the 4th floor. That’s how we got the great view. The stairs are keeping us young.

Walking first thing Today we saw a door that we like. Lovely thistles. We usually start the day going through Milne’s Court to get down toward Waverley Bridge.

We had a 10 am tour scheduled of the Grand Lodge museum. We found it without a problem and enjoyed the tour. I didn’t take any pictures because I left my camera in the backpack at the front desk. Plan ahead…
Next we went to the National Portrait Gallery. Wonderful building, wonderful art.

Time for lunch! We went to Milne’s at J’s recommendation. We discussed with the gentleman at the next table if we had to go up To the bar to order and he said no, he hadn’t ever ordered food. Then we saw a sign on the table, in four languages, saying to order at the bar. Here’s DH ordering at the bar.
Lunch was haloumi (sp?) which you can’t order anywhere I’ve been in Canada (except home). Unfortunately it wasn’t the diet version. Fortunately it was delicious. I love getting peas with my pub meals.

After lunch we walked to the National Museum of Scotland. Edinburgh is a very walkable city. This museum could take two days if you had the time and energy. It’s huge.

I found the remains of Dolly the Sheep! Though I have searched for hours to find a postcard with any kind of sheep on it, it can’t be found.

DH got into the space thing.

Our little travelling buddy found a robot that could spell with blocks.

And we found a camel, among many other animals.

After all that walking we desperately needed a cup of tea. We went to Deacon Brodie’s Cafe for the third time this week. They have good tea and pastries and excellent service. Always crowded.
At 7pm we met up with about 50 of our fellow hostellers and we’re treated to a fun Spooky Tour of Edinburgh by Australian David. He was entertaining and informative – like the story of the last man who had his head chopped off at this spot. Afterwards he jumped up and ran down the hill to a clock tower, kneeled in prayer, and then fell over. That’s a long way to go without a head.

We also heard about murders, body snatchers, ghosts and just plain weirdos, like the guy who killed his wife and then slept with her for another 22 years.
We finished the night off at the World’s End pub talking with an Australian couple who are trying to trace his lineage to William Wallace.
Keep smiling. 😁
